ON THE FLY ON THE FLY ON THE FLY

THINK YOU’RE UP TO THE CHALLENGE of subduing either a YELLOWFIN or BLUEFIN capable of reaching 40 mph? If so, no better way to find out than to give us a try. Recent articles in The FISHERMAN, FLY FISHING New England, etc. have documented our growing success with yellowfin and bluefin, as well as a variety of bonito species and dolphin. Look for several articles this year profiling school bluefin, dolphin, and bonito on 9-12W’s, with insights into eliminating common tackle failure.

Block Island’s North Bar in late May, June, & July offers great action with heavyweight stripers, little or no competition from other boats, and the chance for a heavyweight bass. Best in ’09 was a 41"-30 lb. striper.

September usually finds Atlantic (Green) bonito in the Mud Hole ESE of Block Island, where a chum fly or weighted Clouser in the slick simply "murders ‘em". If you’ve never experienced the "bite in a chum slick", perhaps this is the year to do so.

SUPER ’09 FALL STRIPER VENTURES

Last season, fishing out of my Boston Whaler, mid-October to mid-November, nearly 800 striped bass were boated in 21 trips in the Pt. Judith-Matunuck area, most of which were T/R, including fish up to 48" (46 lbs.) In the past, you could find us targeting stripers under the birds from Watch Hill, RI to the mouth of the Thames River to Harkness State Park, CT. Look for an article this fall in the N.E. Edit. of The FISHERMAN about our ’09 striper success at Matunuck.
